Telephone or email outlining the dates you require (minimum 3 nights) along with some details about your dog including age, sex, breed and whether neutered. We will confirm whether we have availability.
If your dog has not stayed with us before we require it to have an initial trial stay - see below.
We will provide you with a quotation for the stay/s. If you wish to book the dates you will need to pay a deposit as we would then turn other customers away for those dates. Your booking is not confirmed until your deposit is received.
We take bookings up to 12 months in advance.
We work in accordance with the terms of our licence granted by High Peak Borough Council which in turn is governed by the Animal Welfare Regulations 2018. This introduces a requirement for trial stays.
Experience has shown us that all dogs benefit from an initial trial stay. This would be for 24 hours so that they get to experience the full range of our daily itinerary.
They are actually a good idea as your dog gets to have one night with us and then go home. They get to know us and our home. Both of us can better assess whether Oakfields is the right place for your dog before they stay for longer.
Trial stays are chargeable at the usual rate (see 'Fees.') You must remain contactable and available to come and collect your dog if things are not working out for them. For a very small minority of dogs being left is too much for them - we will not let dogs get distressed.
Dogs are like people. They are individuals with personalities that can vary by situation and time. We understand and enjoy this about dogs.
As we are not Kennels and your dog will be staying in a family home with other dogs there are some things that would suggest the arrangement is not best for them.
We provide a place where dogs can enjoy themselves but also rest. We have to consider all the dogs staying and the service we are providing to their owners.
Like you we want your dog to have the best experience while in our care. To provide structure and minimise disruption, we follow a daily routine (please refer to our typical day page).
Drop-offs and collections are scheduled between 8am and 10am. We will confirm a specific time with you upon booking. As we manage a number of customers each day, it is essential to adhere to the agreed times.
A 24-hour period begins at the time of drop-off (between 8am and 10am). Due to our limited daily capacity, late collections or overrunning your booking will occupy an additional space, resulting in an extra day's charge. This is because we cannot accommodate another customer in that slot.
We like your dog to have settled into its new surroundings before its first night. By having a day with us first, going for a couple of walks, some play, being fed and getting to know us; we find they are happier and more relaxed come bedtime.
Being away from you is a big thing for them.
Even those dogs that come regularly benefit from this. Whilst they are familiar with us and our home often there will be a new mix of dogs they need to get to know.
This is about keeping your dog and all the others in our care safe and secure.
We all know how excitable many dogs can get when a visitor arrives. We need to manage this as even though your dog will be keen to see you others may react differently.
When you arrive we will be looking out for you. If we are not apparent please give us a call and we will come out to welcome you.
We will send you our terms and conditions on request. They form the basis of any agreement we make to care for your dog. If you decide to visit we can talk them through.
In summary we will,
We ask that,
This is required under the terms of our licence granted by High Peak Borough Council which in turn is governed by the Animal Welfare Regulations 2018.
A proxy would be a local adult nominated by yourself. They need to have been appraised of their role and have agreed to it.
We will always try to make contact with you initially if we need to. If we cannot (you may be abroad on holiday) we would then contact your 'proxy.'
They are a person who has agreed to make decisions in relation to your dog on your behalf - such as matters relating to veterinary treatment and associated costs.
They may be required in extreme circumstances to take back custody of your dog if it has been aggressive, destructive or incontrollable. This may also be required in the event of unforseen eventualities such as the outbreak of an infectious disease in dogs or the denial of the use of our premises through flood, fire, loss of power and water or the like.
As such they would need to be local and we would suggest that is within a 1 hour drive from our location.
Certainly - We will send you one daily update (time may vary.) If anything is amiss we will contact you straight away. In an emergency you can contact us at any reasonable hour.
Some people now have electronic monitoring devices on their dogs such as 'apple tags.' We have no objections in principle on the basis that any such devices are disclosed at the time of booking. Your dog will be staying in a private home and we feel it is fair we should understand what they are bringing into it and what the device does.
Our priorities are to keep your dog safe, provide them with comfort and let them enjoy themselves.
We are surrounded by the High Peak countryside and can walk for miles encountering very little traffic or other people. This can be from both our home and following short drives. They will get at least two walks of 30 minutes per day. Subject to the weather they will have ongoing access to our large secure garden. There are plenty of opportunities for a 'sniffathon' as we call them. We also have a dog pushchair for older or less able dogs to enjoy the experience.
See out 'typical day' section.
Our primary service is to board dogs. We aim is provide a peaceful, fun and enjoyable stay for your dog. As such we want to minimise disruption through changeovers. There may be times we can assist existing customers where the dog has stayed with us before on an occasional basis.
